This weekend, CNN will air “Going Green: Green Light for Business.” The 1/2 hour special is presented by a number of international anchors of the CNN network, and looks into how businesses balance environmental challenges with the need to make a profit.
The going green special is perfectly timed, with the G8 summit talks this week and the world gearing up for the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change, which will start on December 7 this year. The conference will bring together a number of countries to decide how to plan for the future and the reality of climate change when the Kyoto Protocol agreement expires in 2012.
In less than 6 months, thousands of delegates will gather in Copenhagen for a climate change conference to revisit issues related to global warming. Not since 1997 – with the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol - have talks like this been so important.
The CNN special, Going Green: Green Light for Business, will air 5 times this weekend. As noted on its official website:
“CNN’s journalists travel across the globe to meet with CEOs, city leaders and environmental entrepreneurs. We go behind the scenes at a major Hollywood studio, run through Russia’s plans for the Winter Olympics, see Sweden’s designs for ending the use of fossil fuels, get a never-before-seen look at the eco-friendly engines that drive Google and see why Paris may be repositioning itself as the “City of ‘Green’ Lights” for those who want to promote business and protect the planet.”
Set the TIVO now, and check your local listings. This is one special you won’t want to miss.

It’s little steps we all can take each day that will make the difference. Even if the going green emphasis dies out once the world economy improves, you can put into place some great lifestyle habits that will both improve our world’s overall health and save you quite a lot of money. I have collected dozens of tips you can choose from and begin this process today with either no investment or with a very small sum (such as $30 for a programmable thermostat that can save you hundreds in heating/cooling costs per year).
I totally agree, Keith. Just like with conservation with our finances, I think that the occurrences of the past 2-3 years should change us all for the better. Small steps add up to big results. Best, Stephanie
