Federal funds for green projects

At the intersection of economy and environment is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which ensures federal funds for green projects.  Last week, Secretary Chu of the Department of Energy announced the set-aside of $93 million in funding for wind energy R&D in America.

There are a lot of means to get to the end of reduction of carbon emissions and use of fossil fuels, including solar, wind, geothermal and biofuels.  By 2012, President Obama has stated he expects that our nation will be using at least 10% of its energy from renewable sources.

Secretary Chu addressed the crowd in Golden, Colorado about the federal funds for green projects last week, noting that:

“The goal is to set America on a course for a secure and sustainable energy future.”

Along with federal funds, the DOE will accelerate its loan-making process.  In the past, applications would linger for four years before a decision would be made.  We certainly cannot afford that kind of time (both from an economic and environmental perspective).  Now, expect that the time will be reduced from 4 years to perhaps 4 months!  But don’t think that the faster decision-making will result in less oversight.  Just the opposite.  Chu stated,

“The president has made very clear that he holds all agencies accountable for making sure the states spend this money wisely.”

Building the new economy is a key element of the National Clean Energy Project:

Bottom line:  we’re looking at a greater source of funds, that can be more readily granted for renewable energy projects.  Its time to step up to the plate and get these developments underway.

Are you a renewable energy developer that has been sitting on the sidelines?  The money is readily available.  Apply now!

For the rest of us, let’s start spreading the word about the federal funds for green projects.  Time to urge corporations to Build, Baby Build the new solar, wind and geothermal projects that will release us from our fossil-fuel shackles.

A cleaner tomorrow is here.  It is not as distant as you might think.
