Are you concerned about climate change? Are you a professional or citizen journalist? You should consider submitting an entry in the climate change reporting contest, announced last month by Internews. The contest is open until September 7, 2009.
Per the official website, the contest is open to:
“Print, radio, TV and online journalists, photojournalists, bloggers from around the world and creative youth.”
Could this be you?
The winners of the Earth Journalism Awards (15 in all) will be flown to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, December 7-18, 2009. They will be honored at an awards ceremony and, of course, will have the unique opportunity to cover the important negotiations at the Kyoto Protocol summit. Internews will provide support for these reporters to send stories back to their home media outlets.
The Earth Journalism Awards have been established so that the best media coverage of the Copenhagen meeting, and the discussions leading up to it, can be achieved. At the conclusion of the contest in September, Internews will announce a total of 15 winners, as follows:
Regional climate change reporting. A total of seven awards will be given to journalists that produce current affairs and news reporting in the following regions: Eurasia, South Asia, East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, and North America, Europe & Australia.
Thematic awards. An additional seven honors will be presented in the following categories: The Negotiations Award, The Human Voices Award, The Energy Award, The Forests Award, The Climate Change and Nature Award, The Climate Change Adaptation Award and The MTV Positive Change Award.
The Global Public Award – the 15th award – will be chosen by the public. Social networking campaigns through sites such as Facebook and Twitter, will offer opportunities for interested persons to vote.
Don’t delay! Consider making your climate change reporting contest entry as soon as possible. Let your voice be heard with respect to climate change and weigh in on the deliberations that will take place regarding the Kyoto Protocol this year.
You can enter at the official website, where you are also encouraged to read the full details about the contest, as well as the official rules. Good luck!
